This course provides the theory of HPLC and LC-MS, along with a hands-on practical element in the laboratory to practice and re-enforce the theoretical knowledge. The course is 50% theory in the classroom and 50% practical in a lab environment. Read the full course description

This HPLC & LC-MS training is held in Providion, our partner organisation in Manchester, giving opportunity to delegates to work in state-of-the-art laboratory facilities.

What will you learn on this course?

This course begins with an introduction to liquid chromatography, covering solvents and buffers (the mobile phase), pumps, isocratic and gradient elution, sample introduction, analytical columns and HPLC detectors before moving on to LC-MS, looking at tuning, ionisation, mass analysers, ion detectors, and data analysis. Participants will apply their knowledge to create methods, perform injections, and adjust parameters to observe the effects.

The course also discusses the importance of maintenance, offering practical sessions on maintaining both HPLC and LC-MS systems, including components such as the autosampler, injector, columns, detectors, MS tuning, vacuum system, ion source, and mass analyser.

A day is spent on troubleshooting an HPLC and LC-MS instrument and learning what problems can occur, with real problem solving on the instruments and data analysis software.

You can also attend any of the individual days of the 5-day course to focus on a particular area:

This course has been approved by the Royal Society of Chemistry for purposes of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
