Join our Hands-on FTIR training course on 15-16 August for practical training in Fourier Transform InfraRed spectroscopy.
The course covers all the practical theory, reviewing the EM spectrum and focusing on the IR region.
It looks in depth at the characteristic absorption spectra of various compounds such as alkanes, alkynes, alcohols, esters, ethers, and provides examples in the form of exercises for IR interpretation.
The course also reviews the different components of FTIR such as IR sources, detectors, beam splitters and Attenuated Total Reflectance (ATR). It guides the delegate through sample-specific factors affecting spectral quality.
The practical exercises include FTIR analysis of pharmaceutical and food samples and then interpretation of the data. Maintenance is also covered such as frequency, the consequences of not performing maintenance, as well as troubleshooting for when problems do occur.
What you will learn on this courseParticipants will gain in-depth knowledge about the technique of IR spectroscopy and understand applications which use it. They will learn about various sample preparation and analysis techniques for absorbance, transmittance and reflectance including ATR, diffuse and specular reflection. Practical, hands-on experience of method creation, sample analysis and data analysis will also be gained. Feedback from our previous delegates "I enjoyed sharing application challenges with wider course participants. [Most interesting topic] Aside from the meteorite analysis, better understanding the applications of the instrumentation." Hands-on FTIR, January 2024 "Theory was explained very well. In context for all students.[Most useful topic] instrument parameters, set-up, effect of parameters (lab based parts)." Hands-on FTIR, January 2024 "Lab-based parts of course were very useful compared to just in a classroom." Hands-on FTIR, January 2024 "[Most interesting topics] Practical - seeing difference resolution can make. [Most useful topics] Data interpretation. instrument background, IR background."
