This free two-day event is composed of a day’s interactive webinar “Principles: Reference Materials for Genomics” delivered by the NML, addressing topics including:

  • Why are Reference Materials (RMs) needed for genomic testing?
  • What RMs are currently available?
  • How can they be applied for genomic method validation and QC?

followed by a day’s workshop “Practice: Reference Materials for Genomics” bringing together genomic scientists, RM producers and measurement scientists to share experience in applying RMs in different fields and discuss RM characterisation, best practice and standardisation challenges.

Participants may register for either event or both days. To enable Q&A and interactive discussion between speakers and participants, spaces for both days are limited. Please register interest using the form below, providing information on job role, type of organisation and interest in the topic of the event. In the event of over-subscription, this information will be used to ensure different types of scientific roles and organisations are sufficiently represented.

The agenda for the event, along with day 2 talk abstracts, can be found here. Speaker biographies can be found here.

EASI-Genomics (https://www.easi-genomics.eu/) is an EU Infrastructure project which joins together leading European genomics centres with the aim of building a community of practice which leverages advanced sequencing technologies beyond country and sector borders to tackle global challenges in science. As well as facilitating access to genomic testing and the development of new techniques, EASI-Genomics’s objectives include the benchmarking and harmonization of NGS and data analysis methods, establishment of standards to ensure quality, accessibility and reusability of produced data and train researchers in NGS technologies.

The UK National Measurement Laboratory (NML) hosted at LGC is a member of the EASI-Genomics consortium. The NML is the UK’s designated institute for chemical and bio-measurement. We deliver world-leading measurement science to solve complex global challenges, ensuring trust and confidence in the thousands of measurements performed routinely within the UK to improve quality of life. In the Molecular and Cell Biology team, we work on the validation and standardisation of new technologies, including genomic testing for food authenticity and diagnostic applications.
